Assistant Coach

I’m a local girl who grew up spending a lot of time swimming at Laanecoorie and the Dunolly swimming pool, where I learnt to swim. I’m not sure where my love for the water came from—my mother was very hesitant around water, and I never saw her swim. Despite that, I developed a strong passion for being in and around the water, which I passed on to my children. Both of my daughters joined the Maryborough Swimming Club many years ago.

I’ve always believed that learning to swim is not only a great way to stay fit, but also a fun way to connect with others. More importantly, I see swimming as an essential life skill. I was firm in my belief that my children needed to be able to swim the full length of the 50m outdoor pool before they could stop lessons. Both my daughters found that swimming helped improve their performances in other sports and activities as well.

My own journey into teaching began around 1999, when I started teaching and discovered how much I loved sharing my knowledge and passion for swimming. I’ve taught children of all ages, from infants to teens. While my daughters were active in the swim club, I volunteered as a coach for new members, helping them build confidence and skills in the water.

As my children grew and explored other interests, I continued volunteering in a range of local sports and community groups they were involved in. Once both of my daughters had left home, I found myself with more spare time and returned to the swim club to offer help. I now assist the main coach and enjoy being part of a team that helps young swimmers develop, grow, and hopefully fall in love with the water just as I did.
